07:22 pm: Breed-Specific Legislation
There was a case that just concluded in the UK, in which breed-specific legislation was absolutely in the wrong.

Yes, there are more "bad dogs" in some breeds than others, which were bred and raised to be vicious and brainless. I could support making it a bit more difficult to breed or keep such dogs in areas with a high population density, for the sake more of giving law enforcement more ability to deal with the scum that raise fighting dogs, and give them one more charge to throw at them. Such legislation should also serve as a single-strike system, in which a dog that attacks another pet or a human does get isolated or euthanized because it's just not okay to harbor vicious animals.

But it's just wrong to confiscate a family's dog because it looks like it might be part Bull Terrier, then to force the issue for 2 years, and eventually euthanize it, as was the case with poor Lennox.

That's a really lousy implementation of BSL, it's needlessly cruel and destructive, and doesn't really do anything meaningful in the first place because Lennox had no complaints against him other than he looked like he might be part bull terrier.

Anyway, another online petition, for what they're worth. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/817/837/410/lennox-law/

Breed-specific legislation doesn't accomplish anything but the deaths of animals that have done nothing to deserve it. They suck, and those who propose them should never get in office for any position.

I'm noticing a pattern here...

Dogs seem to have become your focus as of late. Am I wrong or have you noticed this as well?

Perhaps, to an extent. Something about dealing with a puppy helps to make me a bit more aware, plus, the last 12 months has held a lot of dog-related milestones for me.

Wait, they actually took your dog and then put him to sleep?

That's just evil, man. I could understand if the dog was snarling and biting kids or something, but to kill a dog just for being a certain type of dog, to me, is no different than killing a human just for being black, or gay, or white, or whatever.

Racial profiling isn't right, even with animals.

Not my dog, but yeah...even the Denver BSL didn't do that, it gave people who already had Pit Bulls the ability to do a few things to keep their animals, just not breed them or get any new ones. The asshole thugs that the legislation was aimed at simply didn't do anything to keep them.

The worst thing about this case is that Lennox was a mutt who looked to be maybe a little like a bull terrier, but experts who were consulting on the case didn't believe he had much of any bull terrier blood. The BSL nazis just wouldn't back-down when it became clear they were wrong.

Anyway, you're back! Long time no see...

Holy crap! *double take* You're alive!!

And yes, I totally agree. Not uncommon for people though- confront them and they'll offer you a list of meaningless justifications about it. My advice is pick up where the dog left off, and bite them ;)
